As a transmission system operator, Bulgartransgaz EAD operates, maintains and develops the transmission infrastructure in Bulgaria. In execution of the legal requirements in terms of these activities, the TSO must develop the transmission system in line with the long-term forecasts and plans for the development of gas supply, but also beyond them when this is economically justified.
In the period 21 July – 21 August 2017 Phase 1 of the Open Season procedure was conducted (unbinding indications for incremental capacity to/from neighboring market zones) and between 27 March – 27 April 2018 Phase 2 of the procedure was conducted (unbinding offers for incremental capacity).
As a result of the unbinding phases and the feasibility studies that were carried out, it was identified that it is necessary to implement the “Project for development and expansion of Bulgartransgaz EAD gas transmission system”.
During Phase 3 of the Open Season Procedure participants submit binding bids for incremental capacity and in case the conducted procedure is successful (i.e. the economic test result on the viability of potential project is positive), binding Transmission Contracts are signed.
On 26 October 2018 the draft documentation for Phase 3 of the Open Season procedure was submitted to Energy and Water Regulatory Commission for consideration and approval. The execution of the binding Phase 3 is planned for the period 3 December – 31 December 2018.
